Hey Guys, I have made the MySpace page, it has nothing on it at the moment except our name and one picture but the point is we do have one up and running under the URL www.Myspace.com/thevixensUK (/thevixens was already taken but bands have that problem all the time). So I've been thinking about band member names, I think it would be more interesting if we change ours. Here's a list of names that I have brianstormed so far with the help of the interenet giving some weird ones.
Laura (need to think of an interesting last name, sorry no offence!)
Charlotte (same problem)
That's what I've got so far, any ideas would be great :)
Ok so after much googling, there is a band from the late 80s / early 90s called "Vixen" however they split up in 1991 (the year I was born!) so we couldn't be called "Vixen".
"The Vixens" are a drum n bass DANCE group, they don't sing, have never released records, and are not very good... Also, they are NOT on Wikipedia, therefore I think we should be allowed to be called "The Vixens". I figure, if it's not on Wikipedia, then it's not copyrighted / famous enough.
So is everyone happy with "The Vixens"? I like it.
Obviously we'll need teacher confirmation, but HOPEFULLY it'll be ok..
Mrs Blackborow dropped in today to have a look at our music video so far and gave us some useful feedback, this is what she said...
Like the dip to whites
Love the split screens
Love the OTT colours
Love all the looks
Tight editing is looking good
Good distance contrasts
Rhythym editing fits well to song
Good unpredictable editing (half way through words)
Like flash of black and white
Love the colours
Like dip to white
Love slow motion
LOVE shoe bit
Use editing really well to construct video, creative tools and little details look good
Things to do:
More narrative at the beginning and end and make a prequel then use the lyrics
Try tone down the shiny skin
Fix the space above the heads in group shots
Use more flashes of black and white
Use non-additive dissolve and dither dissolve more
Use MAC transitions?
Break it up with shots like shoes
So, obviously Mrs Blackborow was very keen on our music video which has helped to boost our confidence and from now we are going to try and add in the transitions and sort out the bits we need to sort but hopefully everything should be finished and looking great by our deadline. YAY! :)
Yeah, I quite like "vixens", at least to be used SOMEWHERE in the name, but yeah I agree, I also like the idea of someone and the somethings - makes more sense.. But Lexie and the Vixens doesn't quite sound right, does it...
The shoot went well today as we got some good shots that we can deffinitly use, and we took a variety of angles as we weren't sure what we wanted. There is a mixture of high angle, low angle, close, mid and long shots to choose from. However the shoot was quite stressful and I'm glad we don't have anything else to film.
If the band name is "Lexie and the Sexies", I'm not in that band. It's so cheesy and cheap. It should be something a bit more edgy, one that raises questions, like "Florence and The Machine" or "Diana Ross and The Supremes".
We thought we should probably start collecting ideas together for our band name (i.e. come up with a name pronto!)
We thought seeing as Laura is our main girl, but we play such a key role in the video that instead of being a solo singer, or just a group, it would be a fun idea to be '[Someone] and the [Somethings]'
This is quite a retro thing to do, famous in the motown days, but has been revived recently with bands like 'Florence and the Machine'
In the 50s most single artists had a band that would be named in their act when they performed
Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three
Then in the 60s, Motowns hey-day, most groups were a main artist with their backing vocals.
Martha Reeves and the Vandellas Diana Ross and the Supremes Gladis Knight and the Pips
Then in the 80s, other groups, had major success and featured this same name format
Kool & the Gang
Then in more recent times bands have adopted this format again to give a retro, and unique vibe to the band
